The Side By Side Madison Chapter is a growing community of physician’s wives who meet twice a month for worship, Bible study, and prayer. Additional social events, family gatherings, and service projects are organized monthly and provide an opportunity to share in the journey of being a wife to physicians, medical students, and fellows. Check out our events calendar and register to attend.
Our leaders are volunteers who organize life-giving community for the wives of medical professionals in the area. They seek to live out the Side by Side ministry values and have confirmed their support of the CMDA statement of faith.
Jackie Leys, Chapter Founder and Large Group Coordinator
My husband and I moved to Madison in 2013, when Chuck took his job as a pediatric surgeon at American Family Children’s hospital. We met on campus here in 1991 and were married in 1997 in the Pres House on State St. Coming back to Madison was like coming home for us. We have three children ages 14, 11 and 7. My involvement with Side By Side started in 2009 when we lived in Indy and I attended a chapter there and led a small group Bible study. After moving to Madison and finding out that there wasn’t a chapter here, I decided to start one. The fall of 2013 Side By Side Madison started with just a few women and has been growing ever since. SBS is a great place to make connections with women who quickly become like family. It’s a privilege to be able to facilitate this ministry and see many women be welcomed in each year and find the support and encouragement they need.
Kim Anderson, Financial Coordinator and Small Group Leader
My husband and I moved to Madison the fall of 2015 when he took a job in Internal Medicine at UW Health. I got involved with Side By Side soon after we moved when I met Jackie through a mutual friend. Side By Side has been a great place to meet people and make new friends that truly understand me. We have three children ages 13, 11 and 7. We are also passionate about medical missions and work with a nonprofit called World Wide Village, traveling to Haiti twice a year to serve the people there.
Katelyn, Small Group Leader
My husband and I are UW alumni, and we went to Columbus Ohio for medical school, came back to Madison in 2012 for Dave’s residency and fellowship in Emergency medicine. Dave is now on staff at UW Madison in the Emergency Department where he also works at Director of Medical Student Education.
Dora Kao, Sidekix Coordinator
I moved to Madison, six years ago when my husband took a job at St. Mary’s as a Hospitalist. We have two children ages 5 and 2. I found out about Side by Side from a friend at my moms’ group at church and I started attending two years ago. I’ve enjoyed getting to know other women who understand what it’s like to be married to a physician. This year I joined the leadership team as one of the Sidekix Coordinators.
Jenny Zimmerman, Sidekix Coordinator
Jenny is married to Phil and they have lived in Madison for 12 years. Phil is a primary care doctor in the Internal Medicine department at UW Health. Jenny heard about Side by Side through a friend, and has really enjoyed the fellowship and the chance to be in the Word with other women, as we support each other so we can prayerfully support our husbands.
